Placenta encapsulation?

So this is definitely something I was going to do but now I'm sort of feeling like it's pointless. There really isn't much research behind this to convince me that it's worth it. Anyone else doing it? I was sold on it and now that I'm 37 weeks and close to birth, I'm not really interested anymore.

There is no scienftific backing. The only reason women feel any effects, is because of the placebo effect. They truly believe it'll help, so it does, which isn't a bad thing. The placenta also acts as a filter, why anyone would want to ingest a filter is beyond me. Doctors can't even say for sure how much it filters or what nutrients remain. Then, you add in the days old dehydration process, and the fact that you're only taking a small bit daily, there really can't be much benefit.

I will be doing it! Yes there isn't scientific research to prove it but I'm sure you can deduce why that might have not been done- you can gather data from women who already chose to encapsulate and injest their placenta, but that skews the data because those women already believe it will be beneficial or they wouldn't pay to have the service. The only way to actually do a scientific test would be to recruit women who have not given birth yet to have their placentas encapsulated by one person in a controlled environment using the same method, and then record results. What is proven is that the placenta contains the hormones that you produced during pregnancy, and it contains massive amounts of iron, b6, and other nutrients. You can see how that would be beneficial. "The baby blues" is usually attributed at least partially to the complete drop in hormone production that happens about 5 days after birth. Injesting the placenta replaces some of those hormones. Women (and men!) have been injesting placentas after birth for the entirety of human history- usually, when a practice sticks around that long, it has some benefits! 😉

I did it last time but won't be doing it this time. I'm not sure exactly why, but the capsules gave me really bad headaches.
