UTI In pregnancy?

I'm 18 weeks pregnant today with my first baby, I've just got back from the doctors after being ill for the past 2 days and I have a urinary tract infection and have been told to have time off work untill the infection clears up, does anyone no any ways to help get rid of it quicker as I really don't want the time off work And don't understand why I need time off x
