Drawing names for presents?

Okay, I know that this is a great way to save money on Christmas. But I have saved up for 6 months, working my ass off, and putting away most of my checks to insure I can buy great gifts for my family. Just a note, I have around 40 people to buy for (3 families). And just now one of my the families said we are just drawing 1 name and to only buy for that person. I'm infuriated. Should I be? Am I just over reacting? Idk. I'm just so upset that I've saved up all this money and if I show up with presents for everyone people will think I'm trying to show off. I've saved up a little over 1000.

Note: I'm 19 and a full time student, paying for an apartment. So doing this has not been easy on me.
