Do you agree?

Do you agree that if your parents do not like your SO, it probably won't work out? I recently read in my family studies class that if your parents dislike your SO, it probably won't work out because your parents know you, and they know who is good for you. I don't personally agree with this for myself, but I feel it may be true for some people. I think it depends on how close you are with your parents and how close you are with your SO, and how determined you are to make it work. But, I really don't know. What's your opinion?

I personally don't think it's something you can generalize like that. People are so different, parents are so different too. Some parents, frankly, suck. And do not know their kids like they think they do. Some are right on the money. There are just so many differing circumstances and experiences it's so subjective.

I completely disagree.  What if you are gay and your parents hate you SO cause they are the same sex as you?  I hate my parent(mom's dead, she was the only one in my family even relatively nice to me).  I will NEVER allow my parent to factor into ANY of my decisions.  He has completely disregarded my medical needs in the past and has abused me for most of my childhood.  I will never forgive what he did to me.  He is cut from my life permanently.

My dad hates my husband (because he took my virginity 🙄) my mom loves him and has never even met him. I think you need to go off your own personal judgement and go with your gut. I never make decisions based on others opinions.

I think so, my mother has amazing judgment. She's always been right about everyone that's come into my home.

My parents got into a giant fight with my boyfriend and it's just so hard to be around them all at the same time. My boyfriend makes me feel terrible about wanting to see my dad. In the long run, it's going to be a miracle if we stay together. I can't handle not being around my parents and my boyfriend.

Yes and no. It seems that my parents haven't been fond of my exs. I've only had about 4 relationships. They were hesitant at first with my husband just because of how we went about things but they love him.

It happened to me. I was with a man my parents hated. It put so much pressure on me to always be in the middle of it. We broke up after two years of being together. I'm much better now
