father wants to discipline, I don't.

Okay so me and my partner were talking about discipline and he said that he wants to smack the child's bum, I on the other hand don't. I say this because I used to be scared of my dad cause he used to smack my bum. I also know my partner gets frustrated very easily and maybe he will do it when it isn't necessary at all. I said that we can smack her on the hand or send her to her room until she is calm and then speak to her about what she did wrong. He strongly disagrees and doesn't want to do those options.
