Too early to test?

How do you know if it's too early to test. I had an extremely light period at the beginning of this month which isn't normal for me. It only lasted 3 days when usually I last 5 days. I have been super emotional and bitchy and literally everything makes me cry. I want to test but I'm not sure when the right time to test is.
