Confused

My friend told me if a guy really wants you he'll make time to text and see you. My boyfriend and I rarely text anymore because he works a lot but I see him sometimes. Yesterday I was abit upset because after work yesterday he didn't text me but was on his phone. Should I just have texted him first or is this a sign it's not gonna work out..
