Can you color your hair in the first trimester?

My mom scheduled family pictures that include my husband and I. I have been coloring my hair for 6ish years. I was going to color my hair before our pictures on the 18th of December. Just got my BFP this morning, and first doctor appointment on Dec 21. I am hoping to surprise everyone and annouce it to everyone on Christmas, but my mom will be upset if I show up the day of pictures with natural colored roots and dark brown for the rest of my hair color. I dont want to have to spill the secret yet, but am scared coloring my hair will harm the baby. Any advice?
