Advice on Nearly Christmas Bday Baby?

So, my son was born 4 days before Christmas, on the 21st, and I've always had mixed feelings about birthday parties for 1 year olds (I know, I know, call me a party pooper). I've been to some very tasteful ones where it's just a fun gathering for adults, and then we all laugh as the baby smashes its face into a cake, but I've also been to some (a few in my own family) where the parents spent a good chunk of change and a large amount of effort that I just don't have in me (expecting another little one next year so we're saving our money...plus making humans is hard and I'm tired 😂). My family seems to be expecting I do something (no idea what sort of thing they expect!), but I'm very torn. On one hand, the kid won't remember it at all! They'll forget about it by the next day! Who is that money and effort all for? Also, December is so busy for everyone with Christmas parties, obligations, etc. and I almost feel guilty for adding another thing to people's calendars. But, on the other hand, the kid is already jipped for life with a close-to-Christmas birthday (sorry, kid!), so I also feel like I should set a precedent of putting in some effort to celebrate his birthday very separately from Christmas. Any thoughts from other mommies who have close-to-Christmas birthday babies?? What do you plan to do or have seen done that worked well? 
Also, let me state: I'm very open to putting in more effort and time on a 2 and 3 year old party, as they can appreciate it more, have preferences, and so on. This conundrum is just isolated to the first year, for me.

My son was born 3 days before Christmas so we ended up having family over for his first birthday. Yeah he won't remember it but we also wanted to celebrate being parents for a year lol we ended up having his party a week early because his birthday lands on Friday and Saturday is Christmas Eve so no one would must likely be there.

Lillian is born three days after Christmas and my oldest is born 12 days before Christmas. Since Lily won't remember her party we plan on just doing a group party for the two of them with just family.

I'm having the same thoughts with our daughter turning 1 on December 22nd. I personally, think it's crazy to be spending all that money and stressing myself out on a party which would basically be for everyone but her. She won't remember it and most likely all the fuss will just tire her out & make her cranky. With a niece & nephew also born the same week we have their birthdays to contend with as well so I've decide to celebrate at home with just us, possibly a few others if they want. As she gets older I will probably put more effort into it so she doesn't feel as though her big day got lost within the holiday shuffle.

Gwendolyn is a Christmas eve baby.  Because  she was also born on my grandmother's 8th bday, we'll celebrate with a cake, nothing over the top.  We'll celebrate doing a cake on Christmas with my husband's side. Next year and for how ever long she wants to we'll do a birthday party in may.  I've talked to many parents who have Xmas babies and this seems like a good comprises for their kids for not missing out.

My husband's birthday is the 21st, and I know he has felt jipped before with his bday so close to Christmas. Even now as adults I have a really hard time getting our friends together for his birthday since the holidays are insane for everyone. Years ago I found that if I were to schedule something on a week night around the time of his birthday and have everyone meet at a public place, like a restaurant, to celebrate we were the most likely to have people be free and show up. (& less clean up and effort for me, so, win!) I think it's important to have something separate from Christmas since it is their birthday too, but you're right it's tough with one year olds since they won't remember. I still say have a party though you'll want the memories and pictures later. For our son, born Dec 5, we are doing a small party at home with a few close family and friends. It's more for us as parents to celebrate the first year of our baby's life and have pictures to show him later.

My son was born December 30 and I feel like it's really important to do something separate for his birthday because my other kids all get separate birthdays. I know some people will celebrate their half birthday in the summer and have a party we are planning my sons birthday for New Year's day this year. I figured nothing is open, no one usually does anything, except watch football and recover from their hangovers so no one has an excuse to not come. And we planned from 4 to 6 PM for pizza and cake that way people can lay around recover cover all morning and early afternoon.

I was born on December 21st and I have gone my whole life getting jipped thanks to Christmas. We get one gift and unless you celebrate the birthday early December or mid January you wont get a party or gifts. Most of my friends grew up going to holidays early out of the area or parents were wiped out with work and holiday shopping to take their kid for some cake and a movie. The best party I had was a bunch of friends over for a sleep over, watching movies, eating pizza, and earlier we played outside with water balloons, shaving cream, flour, and hose and it was basically like a food fight.

My son was born December 23rd! Poor kid! Im celebrating his bday on Xmas eve and everyone is traveling to FL because no one wants to come to WI since its cold. I made  a wish list of things he might like, and I need for him,  so people can have it shipped where we live and i planned on getting him something he can carry on a plane. We are doing a nice dinner and a cake. When he grows up, I plan on celebrating his bday mid January.
