asking new guy to get std check

So Im starting to see this guy and I really like him but I know his ex and i dont trust her being clean from an std. How do i bring it up to him that he should get checked? I dont wanna mention his ex when i do. I just really want to ease my mind knowing that he doesnt. Any help would be great. We have not slept together yet but that is nearing.
