C-SECTION anaesthesia!!??

Question

Ok so I posted yesterday that ive been booked in for C-SECTION due to placenta previa.

Its down to me to make a decision about anaesthetic options.

-epi dural
-spinal
-both
-general anaesthetic.

I thought I'd want general as i feel id hate the sensation, but then I can't hold the baby immediately or if there's a problem I'll come round dazed to bad news :/ 
Also the having to wait to breastfeed puts me off!

The epi and spinal have similar risks and have seen lots of reviews of people suffering in the long term. It will be so nice to interact with hubby during procedure and hold baby instantly!

What are people's experiences please? I'm having such a hard time finding the right evidence to make a decision!

I don't know much about csections except for my experience with mine i just had. I got the epidural and i never felt it, im not gonna lie the pressure you feel or at least i felt was VERY intense. My husband was able to watch the whole thing and see our son be born. I got to hold him and have a picture that i will cherish forever and as soon as i got into recovery i had my baby with me and got to let him latch. I've heard with general none of that gets to happen bc your out of it. But that is just nny experience with mine i had 13 days ago.  I hope it helped!

My dr discussed the just-in-case scenario- they use a spinal for c sections if at all possible, general only in dire need (because the baby can be affected by it, not long term, but initially which masks some issues they can fix fast and make latching harder).

I've had epidurals for both mine. No side effects. Was posting to Facebook while they stitched me up for my toddler. I got to hold baby for a bit before they took him to the nursery and he was back in my arms in recovery not an hour later.

My first was a little different as it was an emergency one and I had already had my epidural. That one took a bit longer due to the reason I had it. But. Again, no side effects.

My spinal was great & my husband could stay in the room & I was able to hold my baby in recovery while it wore off which was rather quickly. I wouldn't recommend general anesthesia because then nobody can be there.

I've had an emergency c section and also worked in labor and delivery for a little while so I've seen all three types of anesthetic used. Most planned c-sections, you get a spinal because it kicks in right away. Most women who have an epidural are ones who have been laboring and couldn't deliver naturally for some reason. General anesthesia is used when an emergency happens and if you get put under, your husband won't be able to be back in the OR with you.

When I had my emergency c-section I got the epidural,  given the opportunity  this time around since it will be scheduled I'm hoping to get the same thing again. Recovery wasn't bad. No lasting affects.

I'm surprised they even offer you different options because I've been told you get an epidural to numb you from your waist down unless it's an emergency c section. Then they'll put you to sleep cause things have to move quickly. General anesthesia affects your baby though so if you don't need to be asleep I wouldn't choose that option

I only had a spinal and it was totally fine. Not sure why you'd need an epidural AND spinal. The anastethiologist will be in room beside you if you needed anything else but I doubt you would.
