Didn't sign the lease..can I move?

So, myself, my mother, my boyfriend and my baby moved in about 7 months ago. The landlord told us it's month to month but only gave us 1 lease. We haven't signed it (forgot about it) and she's never asked about it. My mother's been becoming abusive to both of us and we need to move ASAP. We have very limited funds so we don't know what to do. We want to tell our landlord were moving on the 1st but my mother said "she won't accept that it needs to be a proper notice". I don't know what to do.
