Which is best?

Okay I'm a natural blonde. The first photo is my natural hair color. I was feeling dull and felt like I needed some pampering and a change. I always make minor changes and my husband sees money being spent but no changes. He says I spent all thins money and I still look the same. Well I tell the salon that. Actually is a school and a student practices on my head while she earns a degree. Well I tell her I want a change I've never went brown before and I show a pic of some ombres. I tell her I want a layered cut but I don't want anything above my shoulders. Well let's just say my husband isn't happy and I ain't happy. I got one color on the top of my head and a completely different color on the bottom. My husband says it looks hideous and I think so to..so I want to take it into my own hands and by a dye from Walmart. Which is best to by? And if o try dying it will the brown turn out another color then the blonde?? How can I fix this??? HELP!!
