Is it bad to leave him in the car?

My dog has severe separation anxiety. He cries the entire time I'm gone and then destroys stuff. He loves riding in the car so I bring him with me almost everywhere as long as it's nice weather. I leave the windows cracked and have blankets and a sweater for him when it's cold, when it's warm I leave the car on with the AC going. It's usually no more than 30-45 minutes and he loves people watching. Is it bad to leave him in there while we go to lunch for an hour? It winter but not super cold here. About 60 degrees. What's the longest you would leave your dog in the car?

my dog has separation issues also. he loves car rides but i could never leave him in the car. id get a kennel & leave the dog in their while your gone with some fav toys & blankets. you leaving him in the car is just the same as you leaving him at home except he won't die from the elements in the house. just my opinion.

The atmosphere in your car should be no diffrent than at home. It sounds like you are mindful of weather and temp conditions. I'd say it was fine if it's making him happier and you don't mind.

Dont go crying when someone breaks your window to let the dog out. I know it is getting colder out but I wouldn't bring my dog any where that she cant go with me. If she is destructive then crate train her.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the dog is comfortable temperature wise. I leave my dog in the car when the weather permits it and he likes it. He whines and my neighbors complain when he's home alone but he just chills and looks outside when he's in the car. I worry more about sensitive Sally's calling the police or something. I already had someone complain to the manager when I went inside to pick up some food even though my car was running and the AC was on. He laughed at her but still it scared me a little. People don't even bother to investigate a little before complaining about any little thing.

Give him an old tshirt you have been wearing for comfort when you go out. Its fine in the car just so long as he doesn't get hot. Just keep sticking with leaving him. Start off going outside for a few mins and gradually build up over time. Its a long process but it works. Don't make a fuss of him when you get home, just carry on as normal. Then a few mins later you can pet him.  I give my dogs a treat before I leave and this is the only time they get them. They fly to their beds knowing they are getting something nice, however this may not work well with your dog as he'll work out you are going out. Might be worth a try. Good luck x

Something that really helped me with my dog was putting her in a kennel with something that smelt like me & her favorite toy. Also, what I think had a huge part in it, there's this youtube channel that is music for dogs, I would play relaxing music for her when I left. We have cameras in our house so when I got back, I watched them & she cried for a few minutes but then calmed down. I really think the music helped her. That youtube channel for dogs is great, it really helped her stay calm & fall asleep!

I would say yes, but this causes so many effin issues. My husband brought our dog to the hardware store one day and left him out there. Some bitch came in freaking out. The window vents were open, he was all set. Can't do anything anymore.

If the temperature level in the car is truly safe then I don't see a problem with it. But I would be concerned that she'd destroy the inside of the car if she has separation anxiety. We've never left our dog in the car by himself for that reason. He'd probably pee everywhere and destroy the upholstery.
