Ingrown toenails

So my 3 yr old has ingrown toenails which are causing him a lot of pain he always telling me they are hurting. I know they are ingrown as I suffer with them myself! If I take him to the GP will they do anything for him? He's clearly in pain wuth them. I can't cut them as he won't let me anywhere near them. All I can think is salt baths which he isn't gonna do for too long! I'm in the UK.
