Stupid ex boyfriend stuff. I need advice?

I have an ex who I can't seem to get over. It's been almost two years since I broke up with him and I've never gotten rid of a sick, sad, longing feeling about him. We were talking fine after we split, then one day he stopped talking to me and blocked me on everything. He's been in a relationship since we broke up, but I heard he left her a few days ago. Apparently she was super abusive and yelled at him constantly and argued over everything and controlled everything he did. Earlier today I got a notification that he followed me on instagram after having me blocked for a year and a half. I checked and it said that he wasn't following me, but his account wasn't hidden anymore. Should I reach out to him, or let him do it himself? I'm not getting my hopes up, but does it seem to anyone else that his (now ex) girlfriend was forcing him to ignore me?
