My labor and delivery story is incredibly similar to my experience with my daughter
My labor and delivery story is incredibly similar to my experience with my daughter. Again I was worried I wouldn't be able to make it through without an epidural but again I proved myself stronger than I thought. I kept waiting for it to get worse. "Get ready " I'd tell myself. "It got worse than this last time." I progressed very quickly and somehow intuitively knew where I was at, stage and centimeter wise, and I knew at 8 I'd start getting the urge to push, just like with my daughter. I told the nurses to inform the doctor on call early and fortunately they believed me and took my word for it. The pain never got as bad as I was prepared for. I told my husband I predicted baby would be born at 2:30 a.m. and sure enough his time of birth was 2:39! I pushed for about 8 minutes and gave birth to a beautiful 7 lb boy. The strangest part of the story is that my husband suddenly caught a stomach bug and started puking about an hour after I went into in active labor. The rest of my labor he was either puking in the restroom or half asleep in the recliner. And that was fine with me! I don't like to be crowded or hovered over (HSP anyone?) and the nurse I had was much less attentive than the one I had with my daughter. I found myself alone, pep-talking myself through each peak and fall of every contraction and feeling like a total bad ass. Weird I know, but I was proud of myself and never felt stronger. I listened to my body, bounced on the birthing ball, and leaned into the pain, allowing the contractions to do their job. So to anyone nervous about labor and delivery, don't underestimate yourself. And just focus on that sweet little person you're about to meet and the incredible confidence boost you'll get after you make it through 😊
