Ruby Cheyenne was born Sunday December 18th at 1:49 pm.
Saturday I had no cramping or contractions ( I had had LOTS of cramping the night before)  but I did have a severe nesting instinct. I cleaned and organized like a mad-woman and at between 2pm and 4pm lost ALL of my mucous plug.
I figured it didn't mean much. At 11:33 that night my water broke. I still hadn't had any cramps until about 6 mins after that then WHAM- HORRIBLE contractions. I mean arresting. I guess having no fluid means they'll be worse.
I wasn't adamant about getting an epidural and consequently, after I did decide that I wanted it AND NOW!!!- it took 3 hours!
That sh** hurrrrt. Finally when i did get it my contractions were so bad I was puking and peeing and could barely hold still for it.
The anesthesiologist gave me a lot though. Which made for a great sleep and easy delivery.
But if you take any advice it's DONT DELAY getting the epidural if your early labor pains are painful. Just get it!
But I will tell you this. When my amazing daughter was born I went to the moon for a sec- but I was SO drugged up that my heart did not open the way I know it can and has since she was born. I was out of it. Happy- but not "in love". I'm an energy healer and I can readily open my heart chakra- but the epidural took that in exchange for a pain free birth. Making up for that now.
Her original due date was 12-27 but her mommy prayed that she would be born when Mercury was direct, And Obama was still president and that she'd be a Sagittarius- because mommy is silly, but Ruby humors me ; )
