Vomiting while on birth control?

I typically don't post topics but this is something I don't have an answer to. I've been on birth control for about a year and a half, been taking it religiously at the same time every day, never missed a pill at all. I know that if you vomit or have severe diarrhea within the two hours you take your pill, it wouldn't be absorbed and you need to take a second pill and use a backup method.

Now I had been on my placebo pills and yesterday was my last day on it. This morning, I must have eaten something bad last night, I had to vomit. This was an hour or so before starting my new pack of pills though. (I take it at 6am every day).

Does this effect my protection in anyway shape or form?

Answer

If you vomited when taking your placebo pills, then you are still protected. There are no active ingredients in the placebo pills so missing one or vomiting shortly after taking it won't lower the pills effectiveness. If you took the active pill in the new pack and threw up afterwards, then you need to use backup birth control.
