What's the breakdown???

Ok ladies... i know a pregnancy test detects the HcG hormone in you're body when you are pregnant but how exactly does it work? I took a test this morning and with it being negative ( 😢😣😭) I decided to break it open. What is all this?! 
Haha someone please tell me it's defected and to get another one because I could really be pregnant.. #ttcforthepast8months

Hey! We actually studied these in microbiology. It's a strip that holds enzymes that respond to your urine.

There are two enzymes on the strip. One responds to just urine and the other responds to hcg.

The enzymes move with the urine as it soaks down the strip. There are "stoppers" that the enzymes pass through. If urine enzymes are present the dye activates for the urine strip. If hcg enzymes are present the dye activates for the hcg line.

So the test worked correctly. But there's always a chance you're pregnant until AF shows up!

My question is how they work exactly.  You can see the blue line indicating that the test was responsive & you can see the result window. But before the result window I see blue.  What is that blue?

I don't think the test would be defective? It's just how the test is put together to be made. As long as you had the tip and urinated on that for the appropriate time and it's not expired you should be fine. If your questioning it, just take another one.
