Talking with my ex: he likes me?

So this guy and I dated for 5 months over a year ago. We had to stay friends because we have mutual friends and had school together. He broke up with me out of the blue saying something vague about us not having a future. (This was before we left for schools on opposite sides of the state and when I was talking about going to the other side of the country for college.)

Last spring, before I was leaving for the summer and almost a year after we broke up, I told him I wanted to maintain our friendship because it was important to me and he shut me down with that. But we tell things to the same friend and she told me he still liked me but wasn't going to start a relationship then.

So two days ago he and one of my other friends show up at my house when I'm not home but my mom is. We go over to the friend's house, but then I have to leave for a family thing. When I get home after, he texts me saying I should come over and my mom had said it sounded like he had wanted to see me and catch up while I was home over break. So I go to the friend's house where they are both still at.

While we play board games and stuff he is like slightly flirty (but not a flirty person). Like minor touching and teasing. At like 11 our friend kicks us out and we are going to go to McDonald's or somewhere cheap and snow- free. But everywhere is closed or closing or expensive and we are broke college students, so we sit outside our friend's house for an hour in his car (We intended on going somewhere, not to just sketchily sit in his car). Also, he invites me to go see a movie with other friends the next day. So we talk for an hour and then each drive home. When he gets home he texts me. It's like 12:30 at this point. He texts me until 2. Idk if it was him being flirty or just me but i was feeling like I was getting vibes that he likes me throughout.

So the next day we go to the movie with people and then after he wants to hang out with people but almost everyone had places to be but my sister and I don't, so we're like, come over? But he goes and gets a Christmas present for his dad and then comes to my house for dinner and stays to make a gingerbread house.

It was so great. We don't have plans to see each other more this break, but it's totally possible that we will work in the same place or the same city next summer. I still really like him but don't want to be too forward. And if he is not interested i would rather be friends than not.
