So im 16 and i live in the UK, i met my boyfriend at the age of 16 also he is 17 nearly 18, obviously we decided to have to sex but in order to double protect myself i went on the combined contraceptive pill. 1 month goes by and i start to have side effects such as headaches, nausea, mood swings and low sex drive 😑but i thought it would get better, the second month was near enough the same however thats when i noticed a change. I began to sleep a lot , aches in my legs then i started to find it difficult to breathe, very painful chest pains and back pains but i shook it off and thought it was anxiety 😔however that wasnt the case i started missing days off from college, stopped seeing my boyfriend because i just didnt feel like myself?😔 during my withdrawal week my bloodclots were huge bigger than a 20 pence piece i even found it hard to pass them, but i could never be prepared for what was actually happening in my body..... my symptoms began to get worse so on the 26th of decemeber i went to a walk in clinic with my bestfriend i told her " it might just be a chest infection" fast forward when the nurse checked my heart rate it was 126bpm for 16 at a restong heart rate it was high. I was instructed to go the hospital immediately which i did , from blood tests and scans i was told i had a saddle blood clot in my lungs😔😔the doctors said if i left it any longer i could of died and the reason for this bloodclot was actually the pill🤔the one thing that was meant to protect nearly made me lose my life at the age of 16, i was on close observation as my heart rate was high, my oxygen intake was low and my blood pressure always going high than low, i didnt even want to sleep because i was scared i wouldnt wake back up to see my family 😔❤. Ive never been so scared in my life, i have to stop my education now, i have difficulty to walk and i have plenty more tests and appointments at the hospital in order to make sure the blood clot doesn't develop etc. Im on blood thinning medication for 3 months as i only came out of hospital on the 30th of decemeber however if i want a child when im older i have a chance of having another blood clot. The blood clot came from legs because of DVT, caused by the pill one of the rare side effects of the pill. The moral of this all is that check for unusual symptoms if you are on the pill dont leave them for too long because it can be a life or death situation, try other types of contraception that dont have synthetic ingredients in because it can be fatal. Honestly if you are 16 or older or younger and you are thinking about going on the pill speak about other less risky options with your parents or even a doctor because although you may think you will never develop the rare side effect there is chance you can because that what happened to me. Honestly I wrote this post to show pulmonary embolism can happen to any one at any age for any reason whether you are healthy or not just stay safe and always know there are other options more natural to protect yourself from
