Empty Ultrasound and Pregnant?? HELP!

I had an ultrasound earlier this week and the ultrasound turned up empty. I'm 5 weeks along (I know not typical for a 1st ultrasound but I was having some sharp pains )
All the pregnancy tests I've taken (home tests, urine and blood test at my doctors) have came back positive! My doc said that you can usually see a gestational sac by 5 weeks AND the yolk sac inside. At this point these are the only situations:

either 1) am too early to see gestational sac(even though it should be here by now) 2) am miscarrying or 3) it could be an ectopic pregnancy 
I have another follow up appointment in two weeks but if I feel any sharp prolonged pains I have to go to the hospital 
Any advice!?!? HELP

If it was ectopic I think they should have seen a sac or at least some sort of structure in your tubes/ovaries by this point so don't worry about that too much, you could be earlier than you think and maybe only 4 weeks along instead of 5 if you don't know exactly when you ovulated. Certain machines make it harder to detect the pregnancy at an early gestation especially if they're older. And in my own personal experience I went for a scan at 5 weeks because I was having sharp left sided pains and they needed to rule out ectopic - they couldn't find anything! Two weeks later there was my baby with its heart beating strong and now I'm a week further than I thought!! Try not to stress about it too much (trust me I know it's easier said than done) just wait for the next scan and go from there. All babies grow at different rates at the start, good luck x

Sounds like 1. I see a lot of women on here say the same thing. At 5 weeks it's too early, especially if you don't 100% know what day you conceived you could be earlier then you think.  Don't stress too much and wait for another ultrasound :)

I don't want to scare you or anything like that. I had ectopic in October 2016. I went in at 5wks and nothing seen in ultrasound. My hcg at that time was 4600 and at that number at least gest sac should be visible. They did ultrasound three times and still nothing so that was it. I had ectopic. But good news is i am now pregnant again and this time my bean is in uterus. I had my first ultrasound yesterday cuz of my ectopic history. Based lmp i am 4wks but gest sac measured 5wks. I hope everything is well with you. I am hoping they will see something in your next appointment. Try not to worry too much, stay positive. Sometimes at early pregnancy, it's hard to see something in ultrasound.
