Do you always put mittens on your LOs hands?

Hi ladies. My LO is 14 weeks now and I always have mittens covering her hands because she scratches her face. Before the mittens, she would get scratches on her face and one was near her eyes. I got scared so from then on I always made sure that mittens were covering her hands to keep her from scratching herself.

But now I feel like she needs to see her hands and practice with them to reach or start grasping objects and such.

Should I remove babies mittens and let her explore on her hands? I clip her nails but I don't go too close because I'm afraid that I might clip her skin.

We only use mittens for nap/sleep time. To keep her hands warm and to prevent sleeping scratches. When she is awake, the mittens are off

I think they should come off. I took a baby care class and the nurse running it said to keep baby's hands accessible because they need to touch things to learn, but also because their hands were all they knew in the womb (many babies sucking their thumbs in utero) and it's comforting for them to be able to suck on and explore with their hands now. I've never put my sons hands in mittens and he doesn't scratch his face anymore, just if he gets his hands out of his swaddle at night and starts crying. For his nails I use little nail trimming scissors meant for babies and a nail file. That helps get them smoother and shorter.

Only when he's awake because he scratches his face really bad, even when I first cut his nails.🙁

I've started putting socks on my daughters hands! 😂 They stay on much better! I haven't noticed her scratching as much I try to trim her nails when she's asleep, but she always has cold little fingers!

Yes remove them and try to cut her nails better and more.   That's what I did and my baby is really discovering and exploring her hands.

He kinda hates the mittens, I only use them if his nails need to be trimmed again and he's awake, the once he's asleep I trim his nails. I just put my finger on the tip of his and pull the skin away from the nail and trim between. No accidents yet! I did the same with my daughter too when she was a baby.

We file his nails. Hangs are a great way for them to self soothe too. And not that I'm proud of this but I just discovered my guy sucking his thumb...which keeps him content much longer and not crying out.

I've never used them. One scratch and she has not done it again. Just keep nails short
