TTC....balancing career with TTC....tropical vacation/study abroad.... Zika Virus Concerns
Hello....
Background:
We are newly TTC, about three months of trying. About a month ago after talking to my OBGYN about the decision to start trying I did general fertility testing and blood work revealed a low/normal AMH of 0.7, at 35 years old. I'm new to this whole process and was very shocked by a result that kinda puts things in perspective for me--- realizing now is the time to start cause it looks like I don't have time to waste if I want a family. I never felt the urgency to start a family till getting this result (I guess I assumed I had more time). I took this news rather hard cause I have otherwise been so focused on my personal and career development and have big plans in the coming years that I now feel need to be reprioritized around my goal to start a family. These goals feel they are competing but for different reasons. Baby= biologically now is the time and I feel mentally ready for family; career= I'm at a good place in my career it know I need to invest the energy in more education to advance, planning to start grad school in fall 2017.
In light of this information, I have been planning to take a couple trips this year (vacation and a travel abroad study program in preparation for my graduate program) which include locations with a Zika risk. I'm gravely concerned about Zika risk but also taking the time away from TTC.
Seeking input on the following:
1. Should I refrain from any travel to places with Zika risk since TTC? Almost all tropical destinations seem to have a risk, such as Central America, the Caribbean, Asia.
2. Should I postpone these abroad study plans in light of TTC and my initial results. I struggle cause doing this program is a lifelong dream and I've been preparing and saving for a long time for this. Though I'm TTC I still have dreams and goals and I just don't know how to balance them or put into perspective. For example I think while I don't have children might be the ideal time to pursue this opportunity, cause when I have kids it would be to hard to do this....
I'm looking for feedback, advice, and just general thoughts about my dilemma. Thank you in advance for your help!!!
