Mom is coming from out of town??

Question

Sooo my mom lives in California right now and i currently live in Texas.  She wants to come out here a week before my due date , stay until the baby gets here and a couple days after that.  Is it best of she stays the week the baby comes home or a week after the baby comes home.  Debating.

My mom stayed with us two weeks, she came a week after we got home from the hospital. I would recommend she comes after the baby comes home. My mom watched my daughter when I wanted to shower or eat. She also helped my husband around the house and cooked. That way I was able to completely focus on my daughter. My husband was very much overwhelmed watching our daughter by himself, so it was great to have some extra help.

My parents are coming a week before my due date and staying for 3 weeks after.
My husband is only getting a few days off when I have the baby and I will need help with my son for all his school and after school activities.
We actually moved in with my family for 3 weeks when I had my son 6 years ago and that was tremendously helpful for me. My mom used to be a nurse so she taught me everything about taking care of a newborn and she's not overbearing like I know some mothers can be 😍

So do you all recommend having her there for more time than just the first night? I was wondering also. I don't know if it'd be to smothering or if I'd feel like my husband and I would really need the help.

That's funny, I'm in california and my dad is coming from Texas! I'm having him come out a week after the baby is born. In my opinion, the first week will be crucial for my husband and I and I want that alone time for us to figure out how to be a team. We're both first time parents and I think that having my dad there when we bring the baby home would be a crutch considering he won't be there forever. I want to get the hang of it on my own first.

My moms coming from outta town to help out too, doc won't schedule a date so she's coming a week before my DD & staying for a week after (2 weeks together)

On my first I felt ok with having my mom only stay one night past when I got out of the hospital. My next two I lived closer so she came and went as she wished. It would have been nice if she stayed. In my mind it would have let me focus on the baby and she could have given the other kids attention.

Just for clarification...are you asking if you guys should 1) go with her plan of coming a week before the baby or 2) she not come a week early and just come a week after the baby is born?

I think it depends on whether it is important for you to have her with you at the hospital or to see the baby that day.
