are Walmart workers allowed to touch you?
My brother and I were at Walmart. He stole something that caused the alarm to go off. (I didn't know.) He didn't stop when it went off and one worker stood in front of him, and another worker pushed him up against the wall and was grabbing him. Now, from what I know, it dont matter if you stole something, they are not allowed to detain you without a police officer present. They cant detain you without proof. I have set the alarm off without stealing something so it does happen alot.
I also read on walmart loss protection page that if someone steals something and the worker puts their hands on them, legally they cannot do anything because it's illegal to touch someone.
I know stealing is wrong and he apologized. He stole chapstick (literally) for a bad cold sore he has. He said he was scared to ask me for it because he knows im struggling. Anyways, they ended up letting him go because I threatened to call the polive but a friend of ours has it all on video. One of the worker left bruises on his arm. Are we able to press charges?
Before anyone hates. It was chapstick. They cant hold a minor without parents and they cant prosecute for anything under $25. It wouldn't have mattered if the cops were there. They still couldnt have done anything. It's not about him stealing. It's about them HURTING him. His arm has many bruises, as does the side of his face from being slammed against the wall. So yes, i'd like to press charges against that worker.
Update** Wow, you guys are so HATEFUL. My brother is YOUNG. But you guys have the audacity to say I am trying to scam them? Wow, this just shows exactly what type of ladies glow is full of. My brother is COVERED in bruises and you're saying it's fine? I did call the cops today. We went to the station and GUESS WHAT? They said under no circumstances did they have the right to PUT THEIR HANDS ON him. They said Walmart actually has a policy that if you are stealing, they have to let you go. My brother however did stop when it went off. He was looking around waiting for a worker to come, or the cops. A worker walked up to him and literally got in his face so of course he backed up. The worker then turned him around and shoved him against the wall holding his arm on his back just like the police do. After speaking with the police I went back to that store and spoke with the manager. I explained what happened and even she apologized 10000000 times and said it was 100% uncalled for and they will be watching the footage and the worker will be punished. Oh yeah, it was abreva. It DOES have an alarm on the package.
