Cervidil vs. Cytotec?

I was reviewing my induction paperwork and noticed I am being assigned Cytotec versus Cervidil. After some research, I am appalled by the risks with Cytotec - I am very concerned about the side effects, and the fact that though it is regularly used for induction, it is NOT recommended and can have grave complications. Have any of you ladies had Cytotec before? Any experiences? I am going to discuss it with my doctor on Monday.

I haven't but felt the same way when I read up on it. I expressed my concern to my doctor and she said " we are very careful with it." That wasn't comforting enough to me. I then asked if I could be induced with cervidil instead and she agreed. I'm not sure what the benefit of cytotec would be, but hopefully you will either feel reassurred by your doctor or can make sure to use cervidil instead!

Our hospital does not use cytotec for induction except in losses or terminations. Definitely not recommended.

I was given cervidial on monday for induction. It didnt work and cytotec on that night.. after 3 doses also nothing changed much except few contrations. Was given pitocin on tuesday afternoon and it also didnot help me dialate. My water broke on its own, had painfull contractions but no change in cervix and i eneded up having c section for fetal destress with contractions. So I believe it mostly depends on the individual. Dont worry.. you and the baby will be monitered all the time and every thing goes fine. Do not rely on the internet.

Most of the warnings for cytotec are referring to women that have previously had csections.  Other than that the risks with cervidil and cytotec are about the same.

Cyotec worked for me. Then I was able to go on my own without pitocin.

We use cytotec at our hospital. I know the reason being is cost. I don't think I've seen anything too negative as far as side effects. Which ones are you seeing?
