TMI Ingrown Toenail Infection

So I have this very unattractive ingrown toenail that is pretty infected. I wear steel toe boots at my job and I very rarely get this. It oozes out puss and I soak it and put peroxide on the affected area about once a day. Some reason the hole must of closed up and the puss is kinda like stuck in my skin but underneath. (Picture below). I was thinking of using a pin needle to get it out. Also, I was thinking of visiting my doctor just so it won't turn into an abscess or to check for a fungal infection. Any suggestions? And is this normal? Thanks.
