love and mixed politics... can it work or are we doomed?

I love my s/o... he's attractive, funny, smart, has same religious views, and we grew up in fairly similar families.  I'm more career oriented and earn more.  We've been dating for a year now and only one thing truly divides us... our political views.

It's caused a major strain on our relationship, being a topical election year. I love him and can see past it, but he is not as okay with it and continues to bring it up and find ways to hurt me due to it.

Are we doomed? Am I delusionsal to think he can get past this and accept the whole me (including my political party)?

I don't want to change him or his views, but I don't want him to continue to use it as a springboard for arguments.

My boyfriend voted for Drumpf, I don't agree with this but it didn't change the fact that we love eachother. He lets me have my own opinion and doesn't argue with my beliefs and vice versa. We usually just choose not to talk about our political views so we don't start any unnecesarry arguments

You're not doomed. Me and my SO have different political views and I found that most of our arguments are not neccessarily about the views but the tinge of judgement that comes along with those views. We all want to be respected, especially by our partners and sometimes when they don't agree with our views, we feel rejected. I've found that we've learned to respect one another. I listen to him and he listens to me. We may not agree but I can open up to understand where he is coming from and he can do the same. It's sometimes a struggle because we are set in our ways but we both have grown a bit more open minded and appreciative of each other by forcing ourselves to listen to each other rather than impose our views on one another because we each feel that we are right. When it boils down to it, love matters and if you feel that your views are so strongly against one another that you're not willing to accept and respect one another than it's best to part ways. Sometimes you have to agree to disagree and not take it personally.
