No way!!! Beyond the emotional aspect, this is a major medical trauma to your body. You have every right to not want people around. They can come visit you at home. It's the birth of your child, not a public event ;)

Well, it may offend some people but you do what you think is best for you and baby. If it's the first grandchild to either side of the family I would say don't deprive them of being their for the birth of their grandchild.

I'm inviting my family an hour after he's born but I totally think it's okay to tell people you rather not have them come. They'll have plenty of time to meet the baby when you get home!

I am only letting immediate family (our moms and younger siblings) visit us in the hospital. MAYBE later that week friends and others can come by the house

We asked that no one visit us while in the hospital because we wanted the time for ourselves and I was learning how to breastfeed. Everyone respected our request and even waited a week to come visit. I think you need to do what's best for you and what you picture in your mind as the best situation for you, your little one and your partner.

Doesn't make you a monster! I don't want a bunch of people when Im in the hospital either. I think it should be a bonding experience for mom, dad & baby. Everyone else can visit later at home!

I asked EVERYONE to wait until we are HOME.  My mom didn't like it, but as I have no idea when my little boy will actually arrive, and she is traveling 6 hours to visit, I wanted to make sure she had that whole week with her Grandson.
 
My friend who lives here may visit (she is bringing me herbal soup), but otherwise just hubby, mommy, and baby.

I'm not letting people see our little one for at least a week. I'm due at the height of flu season and I'm not taking any chances.  I would rather piss people off then bury my child for their ignorance.
