Has anyone here lost a toenail?

My toenail bed broke around beginning of last year. Since then, the toenail has died and there is a new nail growing underneath. The nail on top was very unstable and the tip peeled off. There is still some dead nail there. Now, my toenail is very tiny and I can see the skin that was usually covered by my nail.
