All married ladies out there, is it better to file taxes together with your husband or to file them separately???

filing separate is for people who like to keep their expenses separated for any number of reasons. if you guys have shared accounts then file together. and like everyone else has said you'll get a better deduction together

There are pros and cons to filing jointly and filing separately. One of the big things both my husband and I can deduct is student loan interest, if we file separately. You can't deduct it if you file jointly. But, overall, we found it would save us money filing jointly. You just have to look at your finances and figure out what's most important to you in terms of deductions.

I must not have been doing it right. My hubs is an independent contractor and when I tried to file jointly, I didn't get any deductions and lost my whole refund!

As long as you both still are claiming single zero it won't really matter if you file together or separate. My husband changed his to married zero and they didn't take out half as much so we owed money. So filing together saved him from having to pay cause I made more money and they took out more money from me so make sure you still claim single zero but file jointly.

Joint is always better. You don't get all the credits and benefits if you file separately.

If all your other finances are together then you may well just file together. Filing separately is so you are responsible for your own tax liabilities, if one or both of you owe.

Together I personally think. But it doesn't matter what you decide one year you can file as : married & joined ; second year as : married but filing separated
