cosmetology?

How long did it take you to graduate cosmetology school? Would you take it back? What would you do differently? And how is the job market for cosmetology ?

I was in school for 18 months part time. I had to have 1800 hours. About half way through I considered quitting but decided to finish and I'm glad I did. I'm now working in a barber shop doing men's hair and I love it. I live close to a military base and they have to get haircuts every week, because of that I'm able to work two days a week and make the same money most people make working five days. I would suggest looking into working front desk at a salon or as a shampoo girl until you are sure. Cosmetology school is a lot more work than most people think. It's also a huge amount of debt if you aren't sure it's what you want to do.

It took me a year. I had to get 1500 hours. I wouldn't take it back. It's something that I've always wanted to do and it was the right choice for me. I noticed a lot of girls weren't into it, and we're only doing it for easy money afterwards. Many dropped out or once they passed state Board they quit after a few months.

I never graduated. I completed about 1000 hours out of the 1800 needed to graduate. So slightly over half way. I left due to medical issues - not because I didn't like it. I loved it.

If I could do it over though, I probably wouldn't go. Because now I owe 100% of the tuition ($18,000) and I didn't even get my license. So purely for financial reasons. I also never wanted to work in a salon. I just wanted to do special effects makeup, which I know you don't need any kind of license for, but I thought it would be very helpful to learn makeup basics and learn to do hair as a bonus (I had already been cutting all my friends and family's hair for years)

Ignoring the debt, I really enjoyed it. Everyone was super nice. Nothing like middle school or high school. It was a great experience.
