Drugs or No?

Question

So I'm thinking about having a natural birth. I would LOVE to be able to give birth without any drugs. However.... I'm a first time mom and have no idea what to expect. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I don't know if I'll be able to handle it.

Does anyone have any advice? Or stories about their natural birth?

I've had both experiences. My first labor I had morphine, laughing gas and an epidural. My second labor I had nothing. The best thing you can do is tell your doctor/midwife and your partner or anyone who will be there supporting you thAt you want a natural labor but that you're open to using drugs if you change your mind during it.

I've had 5 babies, with the first three I didn't use pain medicine. I got epidural with the last two. Trust me, get an epidural!! Of course you can do it without, but why? You will remember it so much better with pain Meds! Good luck!

I had 3 natural births no medications at all and I plan on having this on natural also. I write out my birth plan with each pregnancy. I also check out all my decisions on laboring and giving birth. I map out my music, the lights etc. My best advice is stay calm find your confront zone, zone out on everyone to stay at peace, and keep reminding yourself it's almost over. I danced with my oldest and had her on my back with my mom and SO, my 2nd I sang ABC's lights were dim down and I had him by myself, my 3rd I was induced (which was horrible by the way) I cried silently for newbain (misspelled) by the time it came he was already born. My midwife/doctor laughed at me each time calling my a labor queen and telling me I was born to have children which I prove Everytime. I labor and deliver under an hour with all my kids 😁😁 you can do it breath and find your zone

With my son. I had staydol (not how to spell it)  it is really not helpful for pain but for me it helped with me relaxing. I got induced i told my doctor before hand i didn't want an epidural. And not to ask me for if i wanted one. The hospital was good and never asked. They didnt evn ask about the staydol until after my water was broke and i was 7 cm dialited. My best advice is to have a doctor you trust. You never know how you are going to react while in labor. So you can trust they will do your wishes. And that any decision they make you can go with. I literally told my doctor my birth plan is t9 trust you. Even though i want nothing to do with a csection if you say i have to then i will trust that is what is best for me and my baby. I have known my doc for 11 years and trust her.

I too once thought I had high tolerance for pain. Then the contractions became 2 minutes apart and I was ready for as many drugs as they could offer. I am planning on doing this birth naturally (hopefully a water birth) but it takes a lot of support. My husband couldn't stand seeing me in pain so the second I gave in to medication he was all for it. I'm hoping this time around if I scream for an epidural that he reminds me of what I actually want.

I'm using a birthing center with no medication. I've recently been feeling so powerful, like this is what I was made to do! Our bodies are designed so perfectly for this task, I trust that I can do it on my own. Yes, it will be painful, but I'm ready.

I recently had the amazing honor of being present for my best friends birth, unmedicated at a birthing center. It was the most incredible, empowering experience of my life. She moaned like a lion in heat, but she pushed through and birthed her baby into the world and I was in awe. I watched her body change as the baby slowly made its way down. What inspired me most was how alert she and baby were immediately after birth. No one was drowsy, eyes were wide open. It was lovely.

You do you, but trust that you can do what it takes. You're so strong, I promise.

I really wanted an unmediated birth when I had my son in 2014 but my contractions ended up being so close together that I couldn't relax between them and got an epidural. I was never *against* having an epi, I just wanted to try without one. Well, I only got to 4cm dilated with contractions 1-1.5 mins apart so since I still had to dilate another 6cm, and I didn't want induction meds or a C-section, I decided to get the epi and let my body rest which was amazing! I ended up pushing for about 3 hrs to get him down and out. I'm convinced that the "membrane stripping" my Obgyn's midwife did the day before my water broke (when I was 41 weeks) put me into labor before my son was actually ready to be born but we both came out okay and I don't regret a thing 😊

I always considered not getting an epidural when I give birth. Then I watched the "business of being born" and this affirmed my decision further. I'm terrified but truly want to make my best effort not to get one. I already told my husband I will need his support when I'm dying of pain.

We are meant to handle it. My epidural didnt take with my son 8mnths ago. I got thru it.
