how do you know it's time?

This might be a dumb question but Other then contractions. What other signs are there that I should go to the hospital? I've been twice already during this pregnancy but it wasn't time and so far I've had 4 four mins apart but I don't want it to be false again I'm 36 +6 last time they were 2 mins apart and I was just dehydrated. Yesterday I went to the doctor and I was only 1 cm so I'm thinking it can't be time.

I think most doctors say when contractions are 5 minutes apart (or less) AND last a minute, for an hour- it's time to head in. But I just talked to my midwife Wednesday at my appointment about this. We live 45 minutes away from the hospital and I don't want to drive all that way just to be told to go home lol. I told her I would like to try to labor at home some instead of sitting at the hospital. She said that when the contractions are too bad to talk through them or walk through them, then it's time to go. Obviously it's different for everyone but hopefully that helps some.

You might be in early labor and it's just going for awhile. When you get to active labor, my midwife said when the contractions are 5-1-1 and you can't talk, that's when it's time to come in.
