Is it weird to not want a Sweet 16 party?

Question

I'm beginning to get a little frustrated as all of my friends/family keep pressuring me to have a Sweet 16 party. They keep saying it's weird that I don't want one as most girls do and I "have" to have one.

I'm just not a fan of parties and I honestly prefer staying home for a nice meal with my grandparents (I live with them) rather than having a get together with other friends/family.

I've never really celebrated birthdays besides a small cake and a few gifts and I don't wish to start now. I attend all of my friends' parties but they just can't seem to get that I don't personally like to celebrate my birthday or have a party for it.

Is it really that strange that I don't want one? I feel like nobody is hearing me on this even after I explain why over and over again so I'm starting to wonder if it's really that weird to not want one.

I didn't have one bc I didn't want one and still enjoyed it. The only person I invited was my boyfriend, and spent the day with him and my family and loved it! Totally okay if sweet 16 parties aren't your thing, you can still have fun without them.

I've never celebrated my birthdays, not even my 18th. To me they're just normal days when I feel even more useless and shitty than usual. 😂😂 don't have one if you don't want to, no one can make that decision for you. Do whatever makes you comfortable

To be honest when I was in high school nobody that I knew even had a sweet 16 party. I didn't know it was a thing other than that dumb MTV show with the spoiled girls 😂

I had one, it was one of the biggest parties in my city.. but the gag is - I didn't have fun. I shared it with my cousin (who I don't even care for) and there was just a lot of drama because she had dumb friends and I barely had any lol. I invited like 10 of mine and the rest was all my family (she's a cousin from marriage)

In my country we celebrate 15 years old, a debutante party. Its pretty expensive and Im just like you. In my birthday I asked my mom to give me a few clothes (simple and cheap clothes, not from designer). I got a short and two shirts. Better than a party. Im 18 and still wear them, so it was much more useful than to pay for other people to eat in my bday.
