boyfriend refusing tdap

My boyfriend is refusing to get the tdap vaccination because he is extremely terrified of needles. I have tried to explain how bad whooping cough is on a child and he doesn't care. He said a ton of people he knows never got it and their kids are fine. With my hormones and everything I flipped out and said some things I didn't mean but really how can someone's fear of needles stop them from protecting their kid. Is there any way I can get him to realize that this is important and the shot isn't that bad?
