Genetic testing...

In all honesty I want to get it done mostly to find out the gender early but I'm sacred to get it done to find out something is wrong with my baby I mean I'd love my baby either way but I feel like I'd stress my self out to the max know that there is a chromosome problem or downs . But from your experience how IMPORTANT and how CRUCIAL is it to get this test done I want opinions....
