Breastfeeding issues: do you go to your ob/gyn?

Ignorant question, I know. But I believe I may have thrush of the breast, as my little one has signs of thrush himself and dear LORD my boob feels like hell. So, I have a doctor appointment for my son all nice and set; but who do I go to for me? I never really understood what doc is in charge of breasts and such, so is it your OBGYN?

Please help me cure my boobie pain lmao. Thank you awesome ladies in advance!

For medical issues re your boobs like mastitis or thrush yes obgyn or your general prac. If baby also gets thrush you'd go to a pediatrician, if it's general breastfeeding struggles then you'd go to a lactation consultant.

The pediatrician prescribed meds for the baby and my ob prescribed meds for me when we had thrush...it was miserable😞

I went to my OB for mastitis and they also checked me for thrush. So, OB 😊

Should be your ob. I can go to mine with any questions or issues that don't pertain to mental health or bone structure, for that I have to go to my psych doc and primary doc....

The hospital where you had your baby should have a breastfeeding consultant lady or two. If not then yes ask your ob.

I am in the same boat right now. I spoke with the lactation consultant I have been working with and she said that most cases of thrush are diagnosed wrong because it is usually based strictly on symptoms that can't be readily seen.  Anyhow she said the best and most effective remedies are over the counter and the typical prescription of nystatin often isn't effective.

Her suggestion was grapefruit seed extract (GSE) sold at Whole Foods Market or any health Foods store. Use it as directedswab baby's mouth with mixture every hour they are awake and swab your nipples. They also have it in pill form for you to take.

She suggested that if that doesn't work it is likely not thrush - neither of my girls have any active signs and I have no outward signs just radiating pain through my breasts and intense sensitivity.  She said to try the GSE and if it doesn't clear up in a week or two we need to explore other thoughts on what might be causing the pain.
