Is it weird/wrong that if my SO and I have a baby before we're married I want them to have my last name?

Well once you get married are the other kids having his last name? If your planing to get married and have more kids why would you just have one kid with your last name

I told my partner I wasn't comfortable for my child to not have my last name so we compromised and hyphenated both our last names. I'm pregnant with our second and will most likely do the same with this child. I've been with my partner for 8 1/2 years he just doesn't believe in marriage he sees it as just a very expensive piece of paper so why bother? We may or may not get married in the future and I'm not sure if I'd change my name so hyphenating our child's last name makes sense in our situation 🙂

In traditional matters. Yes men's name gets passed on. It continues his family line. Taking his name away from his child is actually pretty rude in how I was raised. Everyone is different though I don't have a problem with it. Just depends on what you want to do. We live in the 21st century

It really depends. Are you planning on taking his last name? Keeping yours? Combing them? I wouldn't think you'd want to give that child your last name if you planned on changing it. I gave my son his dad's last name and we went married. We ended up splitting up when he was 2 but I have zero regrets. My last name will change when I marry my SO then my son wouldn't match me either. In all reality it is up to you guys to decide.

Are you taking his last name? If so then give the baby his last name. Otherwise you'll either change it when you do get married which costs a lot of money, or your kid will have a last name the two of you don't have which is a little off. If not, whatever name sounds best I guess, but I'd personally hyphenate it if I were in that situation.

Agreeing with the other poster.y SO and I are due for our daughter soon, we plan on getting married and eventually have more children, there is no reason to not give her his last name. Just my opinion(: you do what you want though!
