do cramps and pressure help you efface or dilate?

I'm curious to know if all of this pain is productive lol! I feel like it has to be because for the last 2 hours it's been so intense. It eased up a bit now but I'm just curious if it helps your cervix and things like that to prepare? I'm 37 weeks!

I was dilated one for three weeks. (This is my first baby) After so many what I thought was contractions & so much pressure, I thought for sure I'd be dilated to two next time I went to the doc. NOPE. They went ahead & did cervical ripening.. & I had some REAL contractions & REAL BAD pressure for 6-7 hours. They sent me home afterwards & I went to the doctors 2 days later & they said I was thinned almost to 100% & I was dilated two finally. & also the baby was sooo far down that she could feel her head when she checked me. I'm not saying you haven't dilated any, because everyone is different.. I'm just letting you know how hard & frustrating it is 😩 I wish you the best of luck.
