BC and cramps

I've been on the pill for 3 months now , i recently skipped last months sugar pills so i wouldn't have a period and went on to the next pack , I am halfway through the 2nd week of the new pack and i'm experiencing horrible cramps and a reddish-brown colored discharge .. is this a result of skipping my period??
