How much maternity leave are you taking?

I am from UK and will be taking a year meaning I need to go back when my baby is 10 & 1/2 months old. I finished up 6 weeks before baby was born due to physical job and baby being late. I wish I could wait until he's 1.

I get 8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay then into government statutory pay. My last 3 months are unpaid but I will use some annual leave.

I'm curious to how much entitled maternity leave people in other countries yet.

Also how many holiday do you get annually?

Wow! Reading some of these responses makes me want to move! I'm in the USA. I was allowed 12 weeks FMLA, only if I qualified for it (I had to fill out paperwork to see if I qualify), and I did. If I didn't qualify I was only allowed 6 weeks per doctors order, from a vaginal delivery. All maternity leave was UNPAID!

I live in Romania and we get two years of maternity leave at 85% pay.

We used to get only one year with 85% until recently but we have an awful natality rate, nearly the worst in Europe if I remember correctly (and especially bad in the case of middle income people).

We can return to work anytime after a mandatory 42 days after birth. I initially wanted to return after one year, to minimize the damage done to my career but now I am seriously considering staying at home with him the full two years.

Our standard paid vacation time is 20 days a year. Mothers also get 63 fully paid days off before the probable date of birth.

The US is widely varied on leave policies. We only have 12 weeks mandated leave but it is unpaid. Some companies have their own maternity leave policies that allow for paid leave, some don't. I personally work for a univeristy that allows for 12 weeks unpaid maternity leave. I could use my accrued vacation time but I'd only been with them for a year and didn't have much to use so I saved it and just took the 3 months unpaid (get to keep health insurance during that time). I am fortunate enough to have an SO who works and could provide enough for me to take it but many women in the US are not able to take much time off at all. It's disgraceful.

Poland. We can have a full year and we get 80% of our income during this time or we can divide it for 100% per first six months and then 60% till 12 months.

I am taking 15 months, 3 months of Short term disability before birth(doc orders) and 12 months after baby was born,all paid at 66% of my salary through gov't and employer top-ups. I also have full benefits for and will earn my vacation days so I go back to work with 5 weeks. I plan to only work 4days a week when I return.

i have a full year if i choose. maternity leave is 17 weeks and then "parental leave" is 35 weeks. if the dad wants to have parental leave, that would cut my time down by however many weeks he wants to take.

I'm in Canada and I've been off since May 2016 and will only be going back to work September 2016. I got sick leave before my one year maternity leave. I'm lucky that my employer also provides a top up where I'll be getting 85% of my pay and I get accrued vacation time during my leave which I have to take before Dec 31st 2017.

In Brazil we have 4 to 6 months paid maternity leave. What most moms do is they add they're 30 days of annual paid vacation to the maternity leave so it's 5-7 months with the baby. I'm doing 7 months .

For me with my teaching job in the US, I got 6 weeks fully paid (but they drain my sick days, which is the equivalent of 3 years accrued six days) and then could take 6 more weeks unpaid, but I keep my benefits.
