Hey ladies I been on antidepressant for 2 years and just found out I'm pregnant. My first ob appointment isn't until the end of February so I'm not sure if I should stop the medication until I speak to my doctor or continue taking it. I'm on lexapro 10mg. Anyone who has experience with antidepresant during pregnancy?Thanks in advance!

Even though you don't have an ob appointment until Feb, you should still be able to call your ob office nurse and they can find out for you from a doctor there

Call your pharmacy you can find out what level is is. I have level b meds that I take for a gi issue that are safe and I will stay on. It will give you peace of mind for tonight till you can get a hold of your doctor.

This is a case where you need to speak to the prescribing doctor ASAP. There are other medications they can give you that are considered safe during pregnancy.

I'm on 10 mg Lexapro. I went off it during my first trimester my by own choice, with guidence from my psychiatrist. She told me that ultimately it was my choice. I was given Buspar, which is safe during pregnancy, but all it did was make me sleepy. I went back on Lexapro around week 16/17 and am very happy with my choice.

You need to talk to your prescribing doctor right away. Keep taking it until then, though. They should discuss options with you such as weening you off the medication or maybe putting you on a medication on that may be safer to take during pregnancy. I don't know if lexapro is safe or not, but your doctor will have all the information.

Definitely talk to whoever prescribed it. Some people actually do ok without antipsychotic meds during pregnancy because of hormones. I have bipolar and have been off everything since I found out I was pregnant. There are some meds that are baby safe; you can talk with your dr about those and/or other ways to manage your moods.

You need to talk with your doctor. Every case is different. Personally I opted to go off of my fairly high dose of Prozac. It's a risk vs reward situation. If you are able to function and take care of yourself off of your antidepressant your doctor will want you to stop it because antidepressants are Class C. If you're not able to take care of yourself or are prone to self harm or things of that nature, your doctor will likely want you to keep taking your prescription. Don't stop any medication without first discussing it with your doctor.
