how often to bathe newborn

So I have a friend (she's not a parent but she's taken care of lots of kids over the years) she told me that you aren't supposed to bathe your baby but once a week cause they have special oils on their skin to fight off bacterias/ infections. It seems like a legit reason I'd think but I'm like how accurate is that? I don't trust google so I was hoping someone on here might have a little more info. How often should we bath our kids? I bath daily so I just assumed bath my child daily (aside from the first few days cause the umbilical cord) what's your thoughts
