PCOS and excess bleeding

I was diagnosed with pcos when I was 17 (now 29) my husband and I have been ttc off and on for three years. The last time we were trying I had to be put on birth control because my periods just went crazy and lasted like three months. I had the skyla implant for a year and half and then had it removed in July of last year. My periods have been fine since then up until December. I had a three week long period and then two weeks of no bleeding and now I've been on my period again for two and a half weeks. I have an appt on Friday to check everything out and discuss my options but I was wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and what they did if something besides birth control?
