What to get your man for vday

So this is the first valentine's day with a serious boyfriend and i have no idea what to get him for vday. He said he wanted a shirt and some ice cream! the shirt he wants is $40 though and i feel like that's not very valentine-y but it's hard to think of something to get him. should i just get him the shirt since that's what he wants
