Anemia

I suffer from nose bleeds and heavy periods that last up to an entire month I pass enormous blood clots the size of my fists, this has been happening for as long as I can remember...I've came to a point where I can't function so I went to the doctor yesterday and my hemoglobin fell down to 7, he tells me I'm bleeding to death and wants to put me on birth control.. my thing is I don't take pills, I've been in it before and had complications. I also want to find out what the cause of the bleeding is before I mask it with pills.. has anyone else experienced anything like this? I've received iron infusions and taken iron pills before but it hasn't made that big of an impact, if anything it made things worse since I have IBS...Tips would be greatly appreciated!!!
