Newborn at the pool or beach?

Question

My daughter is due in April and I will be out of work until daycare can take her in September. We live in Virginia where it gets pretty warm, but I would like to be able to take Day trips to the pool or even the beach. She will be 3-4 months old in July and August .. can I take her? I understand she should be covered in sunscreen constantly and kept cool under the shade of an umbrella. Or is 3-4 months too little? FTM dreaming of warmer days today ❤

I live in Southern California and while we are not slathering babies in sunscreen, my niece (or is very pale skinned) was approved to use a light layer of babyganics sunscreen while out.  We were terrified she would take after her moms side and burn even with a small amount of exposure to the sun.
 
They also had my niece in the pool around 4-5 months?  Daddy and mommy held her the whole time and she absolutely loved it. Pediatrician just emphasized to watch that NO WATER from the pool gets in her mouth...   but otherwise should be okay.  So they were just cautious.
 
I took my niece to the beach, but sand is a bit tricky, Hahahaha.  So I wouldn't recommend the beach per say.
 
Just dress your little one in layers (so if they get hot you take one layer off at a time), have a specific umbrella or shade covering for the baby, and a blanket or something on the ground.  Sun hats and sun glasses are great if your baby will tolerate them (my niece wore her baby bands sunglasses but HATED hats, LOL).
 
Just ask the pediatrician and go from there.

She shouldn't use sunscreen until at least 6 months.. I wouldn't go out somewhere for long with a new baby in the sun. Babies and overheating don't mix well!

Most sunscreens aren't recommended for babies under 6 months old. I took my oldest to the pool at 5 months though and used a little, just mostly kept her covered and in the shade and she was fine. My second daughter is due in May and I plan on getting our oldest to the beach once or twice at least before the summer is over and the baby will have to come along. Just use common sense. We're in Virginia as well :)

Yeah its fine just keep her out of direct sunlight, keep her in loose fitting cool clothes and a sun hat and make sure she is hydrated. Everyone thats saying no what do you think people do when they have babies and they live at the beach or in very hot conditions.

Sunscreen isn't safe for babies under six months of age! You can take her but I'd keep her under an umbrella and sun hat and during non peak times as infants' skin is so delicate. You'll probably want a small travel bed of some kind or age can just nap in your arms since she'll still be little. You can still enjoy being outside just with some adaptations.

Don't use sunscreen until 6 months. Just get a little kid pool with a shade for at home.

I think that'd be fine. I'm a FTM so I can't say for sure. I have heard though you should wait until they are 6 months before putting them in the water.
